Estádio da Luz, officially named Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica, is a multi-purpose stadium located in Lisbon, Portugal. It is used mostly for football matches and hosts the home matches of S.L. Benfica. It is also called A Catedral (The Cathedral) by Benfica supporters. It was opened on 25 October 2003.

It is a UEFA category four stadium and the twenty-first biggest stadium by capacity in Europe. The Estádio da Luz hosted several matches in the UEFA Euro 2004 including the final and it will host the 2014 UEFA Champions League Final. The previous Benfica stadium with 120,000 seats, also called Estádio da Luz, was demolished in 2003 and the new one was built with a maximum capacity of 65,647 making it the 21st largest stadium in Europe in terms of capacity. HOK Sport Venue Event (now Populous) designed the stadium to use as much natural light as possible.

The architect Damon Lavelle designed the stadium to focus on light and transparency, offering an incentive to name the stadium "Estádio da Luz" as the original stadium had the same name. The polycarbonate roof of the stadium allows the rays of sunlight to penetrate it, lighting the stadium. The roof, which is supported by tie-beams of four steel arches, seems to float on the underlying tribunes. The arches measure 43 metres in height and help to define the look of the stadium after having been shaped to be similar to the wavy profile of the three tiers of the stadium.

NIGERIA - Idanre Hills - The City of Caves and Inselbergs

We can show in this postcard Idanre Hills.

Idanre Town, the location of these hills is about 24 kilometres southwest of Akure the state capital.
The town is divided into viz, the new settlement which is at the foot of the hills and Oke- Idanre the old settlements on the top of the hills.

There is the hill top sanctuary of Idanre, which consists of about 640 steps. These had necessitated, in addition, the construction of five resting posts along the steps to the top. At the top of the hill, there is an intriguing footprint, which is widely believed to enlarge or contract to accommodate every foot. It is as well believed that anybody whose foot does not exactly fit into the footprint is considered to be a witch or a wizard.

The cultural relics in term of gods, goddesses and traditional arts can still be seen in addition to the old palace built around the 17th century.
The panoramic view of the new Idanre never fails to fascinate first time visitors.

NIGERIA - KANO DYE PIT

Here we have Kano Dye Pit.

Founded in 1498, the Kofar Mata pits are said to be the oldest in Africa and are the only survivor of Kano's dye trade -- which once included 13 pit complexes. Close to the royal palace, its colors have adorned the fabrics of Kano's traditional rulers for centuries.

For 500 years the dyers of Kano have crouched over circular pits near the mud city wall, plunging fabrics into water infused with indigo.

Another amazing picture. This is story and knoledge.

NIGERIA - OLUMO ROCK

Yesterday I received a special offer.
I received 10 postcards about Nigeria. My first ones from this amazing country. I put all along the time. Starts Now!

In this picture we can see a Olumo Rock in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Unesco Tentative List!
A little beat of history:
Olumo rock is located in Abeokuta the Ogun state capital. The rock dates back to the  days when songs of war dominated the airwaves in Yoruba land, that’s was in the first quarter of 19th century when Oyo empire was falling apart from pressure of Fulani attacks from outside and fraternal conflicts from within.

In 1830, shoeke, a hunter and leader of Egba refugees from Ibadan area founded the town of Abeokuta which means “beneath the rock”. The rock was later named “Olumo” which had two levels of meaning. The first is “Olu” (God) “Mo” (Molded) the second is “Oluwa fi mo” (God has put an end to our wandering and suffering).

Thanks a lot to Nigeria Embassy.
